Maybe a dumb question for you x3 I adore your character designs, specifically how detailed they are. I'm trying to improve my own character designs and was wondering, how do you come up with all the little details without making the overall design look cluttered?

And a bit of a disclaimer before getting to this: I haven't got character design classes, I've mostly taught myself by observation and practise!

So, I think the key part to cluttered designs is to have places where the designs can clutter, and parts where the designs can rest. Unless you're going specifically for the kind of design where every inch is covered in details (think about the Pathfinder Iconics, for example, all of which have extremely detailed designs- and that's part of the style), it's always nice to have a bit of balance.

If you have a design filled with details, the person may not know where to look at. It can also get in the way of flow and such. For example, I tend to concentrate details in the belt area and in the shoulder area (as well as the head, sometimes), as you can see in this example:

All while giving some rest in the chest and skirt (which for me, tends to be the simplest part in most designs).

I think it also helps to have parts where the detail has volume (in the sense of having different elements/objects, such as a belt with potions and tools and a sash), and where the detail is simply a pattern. Patterns can add a lot of richness to a design without cluttering it up too much, as they are part of clothes and flow with them.

For example, here the skirt has some patterning (the starry bits), folds and frills, but it's still part of the same cloth and it keeps the clutter down. Compare that to the belt piece, which has a lot of dangling pieces and a ribbon, or the shoulder piece, which has a clutter of crystals and more metallic bits.

I also try to keep things balanced on both sides. If you have a huge pauldron in the left side, try going for a bulky gauntlet in the right side! Having too much clutter in one side and none in the other can work against you.

Finally, I think colors are also essential on this. If you give a character a lot of clutter but it's all within the same colors and has similar values, it won't be as overbearing. If you give a belt with 5 potions and they're all between red-to-orange, it won't be as cluttering as if you made them be of different colors.

For example, here: While the lines have a fair amount of detail, the fact the belt piece is mostly of the same colors makes it less visually cluttered. The hanging cloth, being brighter and having the golden dangling bits, is actually more visually encumbering. Notice how I made a gradient on the belt pattern, too: That was made because if I left it as a bright gold, it would be causing much more visual clutter because it'd contrast too much against the darker tones.

You can use this in order to bring attention to specific details within cluttered designs. If you wanna show a sword's sheat on a character who wears many layers of rags and hanging cloths, make most of the rags and cloths be a dark color, and keep the sheath bright (or the other way around). Values are key when you want to bring someone's attention to a specific place!

Thanks!! Yes, using my art as an icon is perfectly okay! If you can credit somewhere, it’s appreciated but not obligatory. The only thing I’m asking is that no one try to make it seems like it’s their art but that’s kinda a different problem on its own.

Uhmmmm... I love looking at art that has a cute and soft style, use of colors is my fav thing to be inspired from! I also love cute stationary : stickers, washi tape, postcards, pencils... And collecting pokémon merch.  I think the part I enjoy the most in art is not only imagining a drawing as a flat 2D art but also to conceptualise it as a real life item from the start. How should I draw it if I want it to look the best as a pin or as a keychain, etc? Which material should I choose to suit it the best? It’s fun.

AAAaa... (First, thanks!) Yeah sorry, I’ve been away for some months, about half a year, but that wasn’t only on tumblr, I wasn’t really active on any of my social media accounts. It’s mostly because I wasn’t happy with my life at the moment and took the time to change a lot of things. I had to let go of long-term efforts in trying to build something for myself (both about my couple and my living place) but also started a lot of new things in 2021 and 2022 (got into a new relationship and moved in with them).  Truth is I still find Tumblr to be the most... clean and gallery-like social website around? I mostly use it for that. It’s a lot easier to just scroll on my page and see a lot of my art at once than anywhere else. I like Twitter though, it’s very active and bubbly and I see a lot of art I love there, but it’s hardly practical.  Even though it can be considered as a “clean gallery” too, I’ve never really liked Instagram because I’ve lived though Facebook pages and it’s basically this damn experience again. The ever-changing algo and the “pay if you want people to see this post” is tiring and the push on video content is... well... not my thing.  I’m surprised that there’s still some activity and interactions on Tumblr though, it’s nowhere near as active as it was but the culture of writing comments in the tags when reblogging was always something I liked. It feels a lot less intimidating than a direct interaction with a post author so I feel people are just more casually commenting this way? It’s always nice to read through them.

“shouta, c’mon.. wake up.” you attempted to shake your husband as lightly as possible, ignoring his short-lived noises of annoyance. you genuinely hated waking him up. understanding how difficult it could be to wake up early every day to head to work could be, so you wished it was possible to step in his place sometimes. he needed a break. shouta groaned again, left eye popping open as he stared at you, hair glued to his neck and chest with sweat. a small smile crosses your face, eyes glistening while you stared down at your lover.

“it’s time? already?” nodding your head, you swung your legs over to the side of the bed, allowing them to touch the floor below you. your body faces the yellow curtains in front of you, a small memory crossing your head. the day you finally moved in with your husband, decorating was the last thing to do.

you had to convince him multiple times to even allow you to buy a yellow curtain. it’s no surprise your taste differs completely. while he preferred gray’s and black’s, (disregarding his yellow sleeping bag) you preferred lighter colors sometimes. even though he was annoyed, the malice didn’t last long, and he ended up buying it for you, actually.

humming, you pat the spot next to you, encouraging him to sit up and sit next to you. your ears perked up after hearing him sigh, but soon enough, there was a small dip in the bed beside you and you chuckled quietly.

“there you go. look,” you pointed to the curtains, a bright light peeking from behind the cloth. you peeked at the tired man from the side of your eyes and tried hard to stifle your laugh. he was smiling. it was small and subtle, but there. “the sun’s rising... isn’t it beautiful.”

shouta stared at the peeking sun for a few seconds before turning his head to face you, eyes boring into yours.

“it is.”

Terrifying and hopeful at the same time, I am very excited to see the hijinks Bramblestar and Rowanstar will get into and how they will go searching for Skyclan, it was PAINFUL to have that prologue talking about them with 0 hope of them showing up again Nothing Nada Zilch, feels like that and the ending were just 2 remind us that that was still the major plot point hahaha, I appreciate it I guess. I'm glad Violetpaw and Twigpaw are on uh good terms despite it all, not very ideal and they're both upset but they still consider each other siblings and know they care about each other :'0 Alderheart getting his name is epic too!!! I was hoping he would soon. I loved everything about his interactions with Jayfeather here, loved all the characterizations really it was just top notch, Onestar being a bastard, Needletail, OH AND SHADOWCLAN JOINING THE ROGUES, top notch!!!! The ancap apprentices were a riot.

This was a good book!!! Flowed very nicely and smoothly, reading in shadowclan's point of view for more than around 3 chapters was great. I can barely wait for the rest!!! Will Violetpaw find belonging in this new era of Shadowclan??? Or will she leave again??? Will Alderheart somehow figure out where Skyclan is and get them together at the lake??? Will Twigpaw get all the spicy details of Dovewing's secret romance with Tigerheart??? Who knows!! But I am very excited to find out what happens next :D

@paintbrushyy hey!! HMM so... I’m not sure at all that I could give you an advice....I think I just could say how I found my style? I remember I had that moment when I had no style like in 2015, I mostly drew like you know...“without line work” drawings and I had not really good technique for it.. and my anatomy was freacking bad as I was a beginner, I thought that I need to learn it but for doing it I decided to do drawings only with line-work, no more “shapes/sculpture” art. Yeah anatomy was bad as I just started to practice it, i’m still learning i guess haha, but at that exactly moment I started to develop my stylized art style. Simple lines, simple colors, simple shades, simple poses. In 2016 (south park time) I experimented and tried to draw even more simple, I drew quick requests with simple faces and bodies (like with massive hoodies). Also tried different techniques and chose one i preferred more. My style become completely cartoonish. And I draw one favorite character 1000 times till I was happy with it, I drew Kenny million timea, you can go through my “kenny mccormick” tag and notice how my style was developing. After that year I realized that I wasn’t happy with what i’m doing (depressionnsss) and started to make ppl less cartoonish and added more shades,more folds in clothes. So... I guess you could try to draw like really simple shapes, maybe even without noses (I remember i did it it the very beginning ahah), draw studies with references but not like... 50 hours for one practise. 1 min-10 min?? Don’t go very detailed, just sketches. Then line work (and then cry that sketch is betterahah) I know one dude who drew with semi-realistic style, but when he was lazy he drew lil cartoonish dudes with dot-noses and 2-lines-eyes just to show emotions, it looked like completely another style and it looked interesting. Relaxed style. I have no Idea if that could help sdfkshdkfsdhf

KYOTO, JAPAN -- A partner showcase presentation of Nintendo Direct Mini was not in good shape for the bashers around last Thursday at 10am (Eastern local time) for skipping all the Indie Games (which affects the Undertale and Jackbox Games). Miko Kubota (Radyo Patrol #20's Veteran Reporter) was on the scene for our Investigation to OneNETnews.

In case you're wondering on both of these... What is Nintendo, Nintendo Direct & Indie Games? According to the information database from Wikipedia, "Nintendo Co. Ltd. is a Japanese multinational consumer electronics & video game company headquartered in Kyoto City. The company was founded in 1889 as Nintendo Karuta by craftsman Fusajiro Yamauchi and originally produced handmade hanafuda playing cards. After venturing into various lines of business during the 1960s and acquiring a legal status as a public company under the current company name, Nintendo distributed its first video game console, the Color TV-Game, in 1977. It gained international recognition with the release of the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985".

On the other hand adds, "Nintendo Direct is a series of online presentation or live shows produced by Nintendo, where information regarding the company's content or franchises is presented, such as information about games and consoles. The presentations began in Japan and North America with the first edition on October 2011. While a shorter version of the main type of Nintendo Direct that showcases information about software and hardware across all Nintendo platforms. LITTLE BABY SEIJI I love him so much aaaa I too would try to adopt that child on the spot. I love how you drew this like a stats card with the lines telling us his attributes, I’m obsessed with it and of course the stats being polite, not sticky, and prodigal fencer is even funnier here XD But Seiji himself is the cutest little thing, I love how nervous he looks, because he certainly looks shy af when we see him as a kiddie in the comic. The little shaky lines all around him melt my heart and make me want to hug him <33 poor baby. i was gonna say arcane or mordecai for this since theyre my Iconic Antagonistic Toons i guess but then i remembered raelynn literally uh. kills toons. so! its gotta be her esp since she rly enjoys what she does for the most part n every so occasion she’ll frame a toon for a crime as an excuse 2 hurt them.

the kindest w/o a doubt is remedy!!……he lives 2 make toons feel better and refuses 2 be on offense in battles bc he doesnt want 2 hurt anyone, even cogs. he knows that puts his battle teams down 1 offense toon but he doesnt care, he’ll believe in his teams v much and he just wants 2 support them 2 keep going

2. Tallest VS Shortest

the tallest overall of my toontown ocs is emrys since hes a cog lol, hes 7′4″ ! my tallest toon currently is arcane at 5′11″ :^0 then my shortest toons are tied at 3′11″ and they are remedy and apple juice :’3 they are kids after all haha

3. Most humble VS Most arrogant

jejune is rlllllly humble tbh n he hardly attempts 2 draw attention to himself, despite being v out-there w/ his limited gags and bright appearance. he takes praise awkwardly n never knows what 2 say bc even just “thank u” seems strained 2 him so he usually just laughs it off and tries 2 slip away. when asked why hes so colorful/why he only carries trap, sound, n drop if he doesnt want attention, jj just shrugs bc he honestly doesnt know himself. sometimes he thinks its bc he deserves 2 feel uncomfortable. on the outside he tries 2 be as chill as possible, tho, and he’ll avoid eye contact w/ random toons constantly

sync’s parents (austere & verity) are definitely the most arrogant. they met by being petty after all asjkhfjkdhkfj not 2 mention they abandoned sync bc they were so obsessed w/ themselves. theres hardly a time verity or austere arent throwing each other under the bus when bragging abt themselves x___x they’ll both fight u if u dare try 2 underestimate them or disregard them n their achievements.

13. Most forgiving VS Most grudgeful

ernestine is probably the most forgiving bc she just wants 2 be able 2 get along w/ others and doesnt wanna have to stress over any potential grudges. they think it takes more energy 2 keep grudges than to not so theyre way likely 2 forgive u if u do smth bad (whether to her or not) ofc theres exceptions tho like w/ friends and family ernie may resent u 4 a long time depending on what happens. when they do hold grudges, its always over rly big things like…. ernie hates arcane bc when they recently met arcane once started a physical fight w/ monique and ernie was there so frantically she tried to get arcane 2 stop but they just hit her away. the attack was impulsive so some other toons saw and broke it off before reporting arcane but needless 2 say ernie was Pissed n monique had some injuries

the most grudgeful is ever so obviously mordecai, given that her life is focused around her grudge on monique 4 ruining her life as she sees it. even before then she was rather skeptical to others n always noted mentally of the times these individual toons would run into her or such. its the small petty things that would be what she used for a lot of her judgements. and in the end this grudge on monique goes as far as 2 essentially become her downfall

16. Most secretive VS Most open

arcane is rly untrusting due 2 their past feeling so fabricated and plus bc they didnt grow up around toons. they never feel truly comfortable telling any toon abt their past or even just general stuff about themself bc they know theyre different and dont like that about themself. if ppl ask abt their past arcane usually says they were a slow learner bc they got gags way later than most toons as well as the gags they had 2 earn w/ xp. they’ll only be willing 2 open up if they can tell the other person very likely will be empathetic (like w/ mordecai she mentions disliking toons and understanding cogs more, which arcane feels similarly)…………i wrote this abt arcane then thought abt raelynn whos also rly rly secretive for….. p obvious reasons like gotta cover up that murdering lifestyle yea….. uh so thought id mention her since its Quite Significant how secretive she is too lol. if she was open in the slightly she’d almost definitely get erased (how id imagine they refer 2 execution but its p damn rare)

so 4 most open um!! id say capsaicin bc hes always willing 2 speak his mind and tend 2 give out Too Much Information when its rly unneeded lol……. its part of his desire to be unpredictable and an overall wild dude!! tho it uh backfires a lot on him bc well lots of toons dont appreciate his comments and some even say “hes not unpredictable bc i can predict that he will try to be unpredictable.” it rly stresses him out if he overthinks how others view him negatively but he tries 2 ignore it by continuing 2 find out whatever he can say 2 others so they can be astounded

IMPORTANT for clients who have version 1.4 or earlier: We forgot to add the izotop.min.js file to sources/mod_virtuemart_product.zipmod_virtuemart_productjs. Now it's added already. But if you use Quickstart Installation (fullpackage.zip), then this file is not needed for you. It's already included in fullpackage.zip.
